Saddle River Equestrian offers a summer riding program for horse crazy kids. This program runs Tuesday-Friday from 9am-1pm for 8 weeks during the months of July and August. Our riders range from first time beginners to advance campers. Campers are placed in riding lessons with kids of similar ages and abilities.
The majority of the day will be devoted to learning horsemanship and horse care. From the start, students learn how to handle themselves around horses and how to keep themselves and their horses safe. Campers learn the various equipment used and how to lead, groom, saddle and bridle their horses. All campers will receive one hour of riding instruction per day. Other activities such as arts and crafts are included. Time is allowed for students to enjoy other activities both indoors and out.
Lessons progress from basic flat-work to jumping for those campers who are ready. Periodic evaluations are made so that each student has the opportunity to advance as their ability increases. We encourage campers to stay for more than one session, as progress tends to compound with each successive week. All of our campers will find something challenging and exciting.
Since each session is limited, we encourage you to sign up early so that you may secure your space. Priority is given to those that own, lease and/or school lease.
Depending on the ability of the students, activities will include the following:
Each camper should come with proper attire, wearing either close fitting pants like jeans or riding breeches. A hard-soled shoe with a heel (no sneakers allowed) is required as well as a securely fitting ASEF approved hunt cap with a chin strap. Hair should be pulled back neatly. Along with riding attire, a swimsuit, towel, snack, water and lunch is needed daily. We provide pizza on Fridays but a snack and drink are still required.
You are welcome to come meet with us and our horses and ponies before the summer session to discuss the individual needs of you or your child.
Please note that our regular lesson program will continue during the summer camp.
Space is limited, so priority will be given to those who own or lease a horse. Payment MUST be received in full by April 15th to guarantee a slot for your child. After April 15th, slots will be open to all others.
Saddle River Equestrian’s Summer Camp is pleased to offer eight consecutive sessions of camp this summer for children seven and up. Each day, campers will be riding as well as learning stable management and proper horse care. We invite you to sign up for as many as all eight sessions or as few as one.
If you sign up and pay in full for camp prior to April 1st, each session is $650. After April 15th, each session is $700. For campers who own, lease or school lease their own pony the fee is $100 less each week.
All camp weeks are Tues through Friday, 9am to 1pm. There is NO camp on Mondays, as the barn is closed.
